Made-to-measure bridal shoes — Buzzitta Stile

Made-to-measure tailoring at Buzzitta Stile is not a service outsourced to someone else: the workshop is inside the Valderice atelier, over 600 sqm between Trapani and Erice. This is where measurements are taken, the fabric is chosen and the fittings take place, for men as well as for women. The Buzzitta family has been working with cloth since 1959: a made-to-measure garment is created for one person alone.

Ready-to-wear, alterations, made-to-measure: the differences

Three words used as if they were synonyms in fact describe three different kinds of work. Ready-to-wear is the garment already made in a standard size: you choose it, you put it on, at most you shorten it. An alteration starts from a ready-to-wear garment and adapts it to the body, at the waist, on the sleeves and on the shoulders, within the limits of the original construction.

Made-to-measure, on the other hand, starts from the person's measurements and from the fabric, not from a size: the pattern is built on the real shoulders, on the length of the torso, on the asymmetries that no standard size allows for. This is true of a made-to-measure suit for men just as it is of made-to-measure clothing for women.

Made-to-measure makes sense when ready-to-wear cannot follow the body: broad shoulders and a narrow waist, a height far from standard proportions, one shoulder lower than the other. It also makes sense when the occasion calls for it, from a made-to-measure groom's suit to a made-to-measure outfit for a formal celebration. When the proportions are close to a standard size, an alteration to a collection garment may well be enough: we assess it together during the consultation.

The in-house tailoring workshop at the Valderice atelier

At the Valderice atelier the in-house tailoring occupies a dedicated space: a tailoring workshop in western Sicily. Anyone looking for a tailor between Trapani and Erice will find the workshop and the fabrics here.

The person who takes the measurements and the person who works the cloth are in the same place: when, during a fitting, a shoulder needs raising slightly or the jacket collar does not sit as it should, the correction is decided there and then, in the atelier.

The in-house tailoring also works on garments from the collections we carry: Cleofe Finati, for which we are the exclusive stockist for Western Sicily, Luigi Bianchi, Palazzo and Digel for men, Musani and Soani for women. Alterations are carried out here, between Trapani and Erice.

How a made-to-measure garment comes to life

It begins with a consultation, by appointment: we start from the occasion, a wedding, a formal celebration, an eighteenth birthday, or from the wish for a garment that standard sizes have never done justice to, and together we assess which kind of work makes sense.

Next comes the choice of fabric, with the swatch book in hand. This is where decisions are made that cannot be undone later: the weight and the handle of the cloth, the colour seen in the right light, how it will perform in summer or at a winter celebration. At the same stage we define the lapels, the pockets, the buttons, the lining and the waistcoat, if there is one.

Then the measurements are taken and the pattern is built. The fittings take place in the atelier: this is the moment when the way the collar sits and the slope of the shoulders are corrected.

Made-to-measure shirts in Trapani and Erice

The shirt is the garment in which made-to-measure shows immediately. A collar of the right size, one that neither tightens nor floats under the jacket, changes the look of the whole outfit; a sleeve of the correct length lets just enough cuff show.

With a made-to-measure shirt you choose the shape of the collar, more open or more closed depending on the face and the knot of the tie, the type of cuff, plain or for cufflinks, the fabric, the pocket and the monogram.

Made-to-measure shirts start from measurements taken in the atelier, together with a suit or on their own. For anyone looking for made-to-measure shirts in Trapani, the workshop is in Valderice: it is also the simplest garment to begin with in order to understand how we work.

Made-to-measure for women and bridal and occasion footwear

Made-to-measure for women answers a precise need: a waistline to be redrawn, a length to be reconsidered, a neckline to be modified. The in-house tailoring works on garments from our collections, Musani and Soani for formal occasions and the White line for brides, and builds women's occasion dresses to measure.

To this we add made-to-measure footwear for women, for brides and for formal occasions, produced together with Calzaturificio Francesco: you choose the model, the leather, the colour and the heel height, and the shoe is built on the foot. It is a service reserved for women.

Heel height and dress length should be assessed together.

Three generations, from street trader to atelier

Buzzitta Stile began in 1959, when Giacomo Buzzitta travelled the villages of the Trapani area as a street trader with a Fiat 500 C Belvedere loaded with cloth, and it still happened that fabric was bartered for eggs. In 1973 came the first shop window bearing the Giacomo Buzzitta sign, and in the Eighties the permanent shop and the second generation.

Today the Valderice atelier is in the hands of the third generation, and since 2016 there has been a groom's department. In more than sixty years the working method has stayed the same. Made-to-measure garments are created in an atelier between Trapani and Erice, serving an area that stretches from Paceco and Marsala to Alcamo and Castellammare del Golfo, as far as Palermo. On Google the average rating is 4.7 from around 88 reviews.

Consultation by appointment

Made-to-measure is followed by appointment: measurements, the choice of fabric and the fittings are not done in a hurry. You can arrange a meeting on 0923 836115, on WhatsApp or by writing to info@buzzittastile.it.

The atelier is at Via della Regione 29 in Valderice (TP), open Monday 16:00-20:00 and Tuesday to Saturday 9:00-13:00 and 16:00-20:00; on Sundays we receive by appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Can a suit for an eighteenth birthday also be made to measure?

Yes. An eighteenth birthday is among the occasions we work for, both with collection garments and with made-to-measure built in our in-house workshop, for young men as well as for young women. During the consultation we assess the kind of evening, the fabric and the most suitable kind of work. The meeting is arranged by appointment, at the atelier in Valderice.

Do I still need an appointment for a made-to-measure shirt?

Yes. Shirts too require choosing the fabric from the swatch book and having the measurements taken in the atelier, so it is best to book an appointment on 0923 836115, on WhatsApp or by writing to info@buzzittastile.it. This applies both to a single shirt and to a shirt planned together with a suit.

Is made-to-measure only for people with an unusual build?

No. It is the choice of those who have fit requirements that an alteration cannot solve, but also of those who want to decide the fabric, the lining, the buttons and the details of the garment.

Can I bring a fabric I have chosen myself?

The fabric is chosen together in the atelier, from the swatch books we carry: it is the best way to ensure that the material is suited to the model and to the season of the celebration.

What is the difference between an alteration and made-to-measure?

An alteration works on a garment that has already been made: lengths, shoulders, armholes, waist. Made-to-measure starts earlier, from the fabric and from the pattern built on the person's measurements.

Can made-to-measure garments be bought online?

No, we do not sell online. Made-to-measure requires measurements taken in person, the choice of fabric from the swatch book and fittings in the atelier: we receive clients in Valderice, between Trapani and Erice, by appointment. For information you can write to info@buzzittastile.it or call 0923 836115.
