Being invited to a wedding, standing as best man or walking your child down the aisle are occasions that deserve a suit that has been thought through, not improvised. In our atelier in Valderice, between Trapani and Erice, we choose together the right formal suit for your role, for the time of the event and for the season. We have been doing this since 1959, with three generations behind us and an in-house tailoring workshop that follows every garment through to the final fitting.
Guest, best man or father of the bride or groom: the suit changes with the role
The guest's suit follows an unwritten rule: to be elegant without stealing the scene from the groom. That means staying one step back on contrasts and showy details, and concentrating instead on the quality of the fabric and the precision of the shoulder.
The best man stands beside the groom all day long and ends up in almost every photograph: his suit should converse with the groom's, not imitate it. Often it is enough to choose the same colour family in a different shade, or to change the texture of the fabric.
For the father of the bride or groom the register is more understated and authoritative: deep blue or grey, three pieces if the ceremony is formal, a waistcoat that brings order to the figure. If, on the other hand, the suit you are looking for is the groom's, the route is a different one: you will find it on the page dedicated to groom's suits.
Time of day and season: how to choose in Sicily
A wedding at eleven in the morning and one at seven in the evening do not call for the same suit. In the morning and the early afternoon, light tones and matte fabrics work well; as the light fades you move to deeper colours and to fabrics with a richer hand, which hold up under artificial light.
Then there is the question of the heat, which here is no small detail. For ceremonies between May and September we steer the choice towards cool fabrics and light constructions: a line that lasts through a day outdoors without losing its shape.
If the invitation calls for black tie, the conversation changes again: it is a garment with precise rules on lapels, shirt and accessories. During the consultation we assess together whether the occasion really requires it and how to handle it.
The colours of formalwear: blue, grey, sage green, beige
Colour is the first decision, and it shapes everything else. At a Sicilian wedding, where the light is strong and the photographs are often taken outdoors, some shades hold up better than others and go out of fashion more slowly.
These are the colours we most often point people towards when they come into the atelier for a formal occasion:
- Midnight blue: the most solid choice for evening ceremonies and for anyone who wants a suit that lasts beyond the occasion.
- Pearl grey and mid grey: suited to morning weddings and to the role of father of the bride or groom, or best man.
- Sage green: elegant for spring ceremonies and for receptions in the countryside.
- Beige and taupe: light under the sun, ideal for ceremonies by the sea.
Three pieces, waistcoat and accessories: the details that complete the look
The three-piece remains the most formal choice: the waistcoat lengthens the line, keeps the shirt in order and lets you take off the jacket during the reception without losing composure. At ceremonies in the height of August, on the other hand, it is often better to leave it out, or to choose it in a lighter fabric than the suit.
The accessories do the rest. Tie or bow tie are decided according to the dress code and the time of day, the pocket square accompanies the tie without being identical to it, and the shoes should be brought back to the same family of tones as the belt: we check this at the fitting too.
These are small details that change the final result: which is why we try them in the atelier, in front of the mirror.
Made to measure and in-house tailoring: a suit built around you
The workshop is inside the atelier. This allows us to work on every garment from the collections - shoulders, armhole, lengths, jacket waist - and to follow the made-to-measure process from taking the measurements to the last fitting, with no outside steps.
Made to measure for men is the right route when the build is unusual, when you want to choose the fabric, the lining, the buttons and the shape of the lapel, or simply when you are looking for a suit that fits without compromise. We work with the same method on made-to-measure shirts, from the collar to the cuffs.
A family atelier since 1959, in Valderice
The business began in 1959, when Giacomo Buzzitta travelled the villages of the Trapani area in a Fiat 500 C Belvedere loaded with cloth, and now and then a length of fabric would be traded for a few eggs. From the first shop window in 1973 to today's atelier of more than 600 square metres, three generations of the same family have passed through.
In the atelier you will find the Cleofe Finati collections, for which we are the exclusive stockist for Western Sicily, alongside Luigi Bianchi, Palazzo and Digel. Next to the atelier rooms is the workshop: the tailoring is in-house, and this changes the way a suit really comes to fit the person wearing it.
We are in Valderice, between Trapani and Erice, and we regularly welcome clients from Paceco, Marsala, Mazara del Vallo, Alcamo, Castelvetrano, Custonaci, San Vito Lo Capo and Castellammare del Golfo, and as far as Palermo.
The consultation in the atelier: how the appointment works
We work by appointment, because a formal suit is not something to choose in a hurry. We set a time, devote as long as it takes, think through the role, the venue, the season and the rest of the family who will be attending, and then we move on to the fitting.
You can book on 0923 836115, on WhatsApp or by writing to info@buzzittastile.it. We are at Via della Regione 29 in Valderice, open Monday 16:00-20:00 and Tuesday to Saturday 9:00-13:00 and 16:00-20:00; on Sundays we receive by appointment.
On Google the atelier has 4.7 stars from around 88 reviews.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the groom's suit and a guest's?
The groom is the centre of the scene and can allow himself more elaborate fabrics, details and volumes. The guest, the best man and the father of the bride or groom stay one step back: the same elegance, fewer contrasts, no white or ivory and no detail that risks overlapping with the groom's look.
Do I need an appointment to come to the atelier?
For fittings we receive by appointment: it allows us to give you the right amount of time. You can book on 0923 836115, via WhatsApp or at info@buzzittastile.it. We are open Monday 16:00-20:00 and Tuesday to Saturday 9:00-13:00 and 16:00-20:00; on Sundays by appointment only.
How far in advance should I start thinking about a formal suit?
The timings depend on the garment and on the time of year: during the consultation we set the schedule of fittings together. For ceremonies between May and September, the busiest period, it is worth moving early.
Which suit should I choose for a summer wedding in Sicily?
Cool fabrics and a light construction. On colours, beige, taupe, light grey and sage green work well for daytime ceremonies, deep blue for evening ones. In summer the waistcoat is assessed case by case, possibly in a lighter fabric than the suit.
Can you alter the suit to fit me?
Yes. The tailoring workshop is inside the atelier: we work on lengths, shoulders, armhole and jacket waist, and we also make the suit and the shirt entirely to measure. Every garment passes through the workshop before it leaves, so that the suit fits as it should.
How should I come to the first appointment?
Just bring the shoes you think you will wear, if you already have them, and know the date, time and place of the ceremony. If others in the family also have to dress for the same event, coming together helps to coordinate the looks.
We look forward to seeing you
