Choosing an occasion dress is never simply a matter of taste: what counts is the role you will play on the day, the time, the venue and the season. At Buzzitta Stile, a family atelier in Valderice since 1959, we guide guests, mothers of the bride and maids of honour from Trapani and the surrounding province through a considered choice, by appointment. An atelier of over 600 sqm and an in-house tailoring workshop that looks after fittings and alterations on site.

Guest, mother of the bride, maid of honour: your role guides the choice

The first step of the consultation is understanding what your role on the day will be. Everything follows from there: the length, the line, the colour and the level of formality of the dress.

If there is more than one leading lady in the family, it is worth coming together: coordinating two outfits in person is far easier than imagining them separately.

  • Mother of the bride or of the groom: long, clean lines, a full-length dress or a suit with a jacket, deep colours or dusty tones.
  • Maid of honour: a measured presence, well-constructed midi dresses or occasion suits, tailoring details rather than bold prints.
  • Bridesmaid: consistency with the others and real comfort, because the dress has to be worn from morning until night.
  • Guest: the widest freedom of all, provided you respect the time and the formality of the event.
  • Eighteenth birthday party: here volumes, fabrics and light change register.

The mother-of-the-bride dress

The mother of the bride is one of the leading figures of the day: the dress stays with her for hours, in the photographs and beside the bride. It needs a line that holds up over time and a colour that speaks to the wedding palette without encroaching on white.

We often work with longer lengths, suits with a jacket and fabrics that do not crease over the course of the day. When there are two mothers, the way the two outfits work together is decided jointly, in the atelier: it is the simplest way to avoid surprises.

Lengths, lines and colours: the rules that count

For a daytime ceremony, midi dresses, tailored suits and matt fabrics work beautifully; from late afternoon onwards there is room for full-length gowns, for materials that catch the light and for more structured dresses. A church calls for more coverage than an outdoor reception.

On colour, only one strict rule remains: white and ivory belong to the bride. Beyond that we move between dusty tones, deep greens, blues, terracotta and warm neutrals, considering your complexion, your hair and the wedding palette together.

The Sicilian climate and the choice of fabrics

Between Trapani, Marsala and San Vito Lo Capo, a good many ceremonies are celebrated in heat and wind, with receptions held outdoors. A dress that feels right in May can become unbearable in August: this is why the fabric weighs as much as the design.

We steer towards fluid, breathable materials for daytime and more structured fabrics for the evening, and we always recommend a wrap: it solves the church, the air conditioning and the photographs at the end of the evening.

Made-to-measure footwear and accessories

With Calzaturificio Francesco we create bridal and occasion shoes made to measure for women: shape, heel height and colour are decided together with the dress, not afterwards. It is the answer for anyone who will be on their feet from morning until night.

We then complete the look with the right accessories, because the bag and the wrap should be chosen with the dress, not at the last moment.

Made-to-measure for women and our in-house tailoring

In the atelier we have an in-house tailoring workshop: it is not a service outsourced to someone else, but part of our daily work. Every dress is tried on and adjusted until it falls exactly as it should on the shoulders, at the waist and at the hem. It is a tailoring workshop a stone's throw from Trapani, where elegant womenswear is built and not simply bought.

When the design you have in mind does not exist, or a standard size does not do you justice, we work made to measure: we start from the fabric and the sketch, and the dress is built around the woman who will wear it. It takes longer, but the dress is born from your own measurements and from the fabric you have chosen.

A family atelier since 1959, in Valderice

It all began in 1959, when Giacomo Buzzitta travelled the villages of the Trapani area in a Fiat 500 C Belvedere loaded with fabrics, at a time when cloth was still sometimes traded for eggs. In 1973 came the first shop window bearing the Giacomo Buzzitta sign; in the 1980s the move to a permanent shop and to the second generation. Today it is the third that welcomes clients in the atelier.

You will find us in Valderice, between Trapani and Erice, in an atelier of over 600 sqm: clients come from Paceco, Marsala, Mazara del Vallo, Alcamo, Castelvetrano, Custonaci, San Vito Lo Capo, Castellammare del Golfo and as far as Palermo. We are the exclusive stockist for Cleofe Finati in Western Sicily, and in the atelier you will also find the Musani and Soani collections.

How a consultation in the atelier works

For fittings we receive by appointment, so that we can give you the time and the calm you need to try things on without rushing. You can call 0923 836115, message us on WhatsApp or write to info@buzzittastile.it.

You will find us at Via della Regione 29 in Valderice (TP), open Monday 16:00-20:00 and Tuesday to Saturday 9:00-13:00 and 16:00-20:00, and on Sunday by appointment. We do not sell online: an occasion dress is chosen by trying it on, in front of a mirror and with someone who will give you an honest opinion.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an appointment, or can I simply come to the atelier?

You are welcome to come and look around during opening hours; to try things on unhurried, we recommend an appointment, so that we can give you the time and the space you need. A phone call to 0923 836115 or a WhatsApp message is all it takes.

How far in advance should I choose my occasion dress?

A collection piece with tailoring alterations takes less time than a made-to-measure dress or made-to-measure shoes: we set the timings together in the atelier, based on the date of the ceremony. As a rule, the earlier you come, the more choice you have.

Can I wear white or ivory as a guest?

No: white and ivory remain the bride's, unless she expressly asks otherwise. If you love pale tones, we work with powder pink, warm champagne, pearl grey or butter, which give the same luminosity without creating any awkwardness.

What is the difference between a mother-of-the-bride dress and a guest dress?

The mother of the bride is one of the leading figures of the day: the dress has to stay with her for hours, in the photographs and beside the bride. We usually work with longer lengths, more structured lines and coordination with the other mother.

Do you also do alterations and made-to-measure dresses for women?

Yes. We have an in-house tailoring workshop that looks after fittings and alterations, and we make made-to-measure pieces for women when the design or the fit you are looking for cannot be found in the collections.

Is it worth travelling all the way to Valderice from Marsala, Alcamo or Palermo?

We welcome clients from all over Western Sicily, from Marsala to Palermo. In a single appointment you can see the collections, the made-to-measure footwear and the accessories, with the tailoring workshop's advice. On Google the atelier has 4.7 stars from around 88 reviews.
