How to Choose the Groom’s Suit: The Complete Guide

25 June 2026

The groom’s suit is the star of the most important day. Choosing it doesn’t just mean finding an elegant outfit, but building a look that tells who you are and makes you feel perfectly at ease from the beginning to the end of the ceremony. In this guide we accompany you step by step, with the advice we give our grooms every day in our atelier in Valderice, in the province of Trapani.

1. Always start with the fit

A groom’s suit can be made of the finest fabric in the world, but if it doesn’t fit well it doesn’t work. The shoulder must follow the natural line of the body, the jacket must close without pulling and the trouser must fall cleanly onto the shoe. This is where the difference between a garment “taken as it is” and one followed by a tailoring workshop becomes evident: fittings and alterations ensure the suit truly fits, rather than simply “sitting on you”.

2. The right colour for you and the ceremony

Blue in all its shades remains the great classic: versatile, elegant and suited to both daytime and evening ceremonies. Grey brings luminosity and works beautifully at spring and summer weddings, so frequent in Sicily. For more formal or evening weddings, black and the tuxedo remain a benchmark. Consider the time, the season and the setting: a beach wedding in July calls for different tones and fabrics than a winter ceremony in church.

3. The fabric makes the difference (especially in Sicily)

In our climate the fabric is a technical choice as much as an aesthetic one. Cool wools and linen-wool blends let you stay elegant even in the heat, without creasing at the first embrace. For winter ceremonies you can be bolder with more structured materials and textured details. Rely on those who know fabrics: good advice on the material avoids the classic “sweaty” jacket in the photos.

4. The tailoring details that make the style

  • Lapels: peak for a more formal touch, notch for a timeless look.
  • Buttons and waistcoat: the three-piece adds character and works beautifully at important weddings.
  • Shirt and tie/bow tie: choose the accessory in harmony with the bouquet and the wedding theme.
  • Shoes: the detail many overlook, which instead completes (or ruins) the look.

5. Made-to-measure: the suit that fits like a second skin

If you want a flawless result, made-to-measure is the right path. Fabric chosen by you, lines built on your physique, fittings and touch-ups done by hand in our in-house tailoring workshop. It’s the only way to have a truly unique suit, designed for your body and your day.
